Brand History

Brig-Ayd Controls are one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of car adaptations and driving aids. Peter Briggs first adapted a car back in the late 1950’s to help his wife who had contracted polio. Using his experience of working on servo systems for radar guidance as a chartered engineer during the war, Peter designed and installed servo assisted hand controls with hydraulic links to the pedals of her car.

These servo systems formed the basis of many of Brig-Ayd’s early adaptations, providing a solution for many disabled drivers within the UK.

Since then, Brig-Ayd Controls has grown into an established brand within the mobility industry with multiple award winning products, precise engineering and never losing sight of their founder’s goal to provide safe, enjoyable and trouble-free driving for all.

Brig-Ayd Product Range

Over the last 45 years, Brig-Ayd Controls have developed an innovative catalogue of driving solutions including hand controls, steering aids, foot controls, boot hoists and bespoke driving aids.

Understanding that no two people’s disabilities are the same, there is no ‘one size fits all’ in the product range. Instead each adaptation is tailored to the user’s level of mobility, comfort and specific driving style.

The Brig-Ayd 2-way fold-flat boot hoist uses a unique arm design which can be neatly folded down when not in use, providing an exclusive solution for some of the smallest hatchbacks, estates and saloons.

As standard within the hand control range, the handle position can be adjusted, there are different handle styles available and there are versions compatible with secondary control buttons. And Brig-Ayd’s steering ball has a patented one bolt design enabling a closer fit to the spoke of the wheel, the only steering ball like it.
